On the third anniversary of Gaza Invasion, Chicago and Nabi Saleh Honor Gaza’s Children with Mass Balloon Release

CHICAGO, IL (December 31, 2011) — Over two hundred people gathered to honor Gaza’s children with a mass release of balloons marking the third anniversary of Operation Cast Lead, Israel’s brutal military invasion of Gaza. After marching from Millennium Park to Grant Park, participants released one balloon for each of the 344 children killed during the 22-day attack on Gaza from December 27, 2008 — January 18, 2009. In a parallel event, families in the Palestinian village of Nabi Saleh also gathered for a balloon release. In response, the Israeli army fired tear gas and mustard gas at those who participated in the action, including children, and arrested at least seven .

The Chicago event was organized by Chicago Movement for Palestinian Rights (CMPR).”We organized this event to express our grief over deaths of these children and celebrate the resilience of the people of Gaza,” said CMPR member Ishan Chakrabarti. Tied to each balloon was a card with the name and age of each child killed in the Gaza Massacre. The balloons and ribbon were 100% biodegradable and the cards were made from Lotka paper embedded with flowerseeds. “Wherever they land, these cards will plant seeds in the ground that will bloom into beautiful flowers to pay tribute to the memory of each child,” said Chakrabarti.

At the event local community members performed selections from “The Gaza Monologues,” a collection of monologues written by Palestinian children who survived Israel’s assault. Immediately before releasing the balloons, participants also observed a moment of silence.

Prior to the Chicago commemoration, the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh gathered for a parallel balloon release. The Israeli army responded to the balloon release by firing tear gas and mustard gas at participants, including children. They arrested at least seven, including two internationals. Palestinian activist Amra Amra said that during the event, “Five year old Samer asked his mom if he would be a martyr like Mustafa Tamimi.” On December 9, 2011, Mustafa Tamimi was murdered when the Israeli army shot a tear gas canister at his face. Tamimi became the first person to die while participating in Nabi Saleh’s weekly nonviolent demonstrations against Israeli annexation of their land. During these demonstrations, the Israeli often uses tear gas, mustard gas, skunk spray, and violent arrests against the participants. Of Samer’s question, Amra said, “These are not normal questions children ask their parents! Yet it is normal questions for children living under occupation.”

Chicago Movement for Palestinian Rights CMPR is a diverse, youth-led movement advocating for Palestinian human rights, civil rights and equality through citywide educational events, grassroots campaigns and creative, direct action.
Many CMPR members are involved in other Chicagoland Palestinian solidarity organizations, including several chapters of Students for Justice in Palestine.

Gaza still suffers from Israel’s 22-day war Cast Lead – video

Gaza Under Attack Timeline | In pictures Aug-Sept 2011 | Oct-Nov 2011 | Dec 2011

Ashraf Shannon, Press TV, Gaza

Almost three years have passed since Israel waged an all out war against the Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Although the onslaught has faded from the headlines, its victims continue to suffer physically and psychologically.

In a three-week invasion, which started on December 27, 2008, nearly 1400 Gazans were killed and thousands of others injured.

About 21 thousand homes were destroyed by Israeli tanks and fighter jets. Israel claimed it went to war to stop the rocket fire from Gaza.

International activists had this to say about the situation in Gaza…..

Experts say children in particular suffered greatly from anxiety and depression after the Gaza War, known as Operation Cast Lead.

Human rights groups have often accused Israel of violating every single international convention governing the rules of war and the treatment of civilians.

Almost three years after Israel waged a war on Gaza victims say they are still traumatized by what Israeli forces put them through during 22 days of war.

LOWKEY – MILLION MAN MARCH (FT. MAI KHALIL) OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO

You might take my life
But you can’t take my soul
You can’t take my soul
You might take my freedom
But you can’t take my soul
You can’t take my soul

Whether it’s a cancer patient or assassination
Or I fought for emancipation
My intentions were pure you can’t debate ’em
But no, never ever shook hands with Satan
My fans are amazing, I thank and praise ’em
When I die, don’t cry, just congratulations
A million more feet will stamp the pavement with plans of changes, no exaggeration
We will not be ignored
You will be rocked with the force of the bombs you dropped in those wars
I will not be bought
And I consciencely thought it was wrong, so I constantly fought
Peace is something I would really adore
But we are at war so give me a sword
I’m merely a corpse, but still be assured
When you kill me there will be a million more

Born alone and die alone
Those words ringin’ inside my dome
Best friends are the pen and the microphone
Roamin’ until I find my way home
Turn my body cold but my soul is mine
Take a deep breath and I close my eyes
I will go when I’m supposed to die
But in death I will multiply

My backs against the wall
But you can’t kill us all
Even if you take my life
Still we will survive
We shall overcome
And the tables will turn
Today I die as one but as millions I’ll return
But as millions I’ll return
But as millions I’ll return

In these critical times don’t be really surprised
If I get victimised by Gideon’s spies
I sympathise with that Brazilian guy
On the tube, but we’re used to the hideous lie
“Civilians die, millions cry
Our civilians die”, the militants write
How silly am I to be figuring why?
The injustice is clear and I feel it inside
Hear me in Gaza, here me in Glasgow
Hear me in Baghdad, hear me in Plasto
Clearly they hear me from here to Chicago
Think things are all good but really they aren’t though
Peace is something I would really adore
But we are at war so give me a sword
I’m merely a corpse, but still be assured
When you kill me there will be a million more

Born alone and die alone
Those words ringin’ inside my dome
Best friends are the pen and the microphone
Roamin’ until I find my way home
Turn my body cold but my soul is mine
Take a deep breath and I close my eyes
I will go when I’m supposed to die
But in death I will multiply

My backs against the wall
But you can’t kill us all
Even if you take my life
Still we will survive
We shall overcome
And the tables will turn
Today I die as one but as millions I’ll return
But as millions I’ll return
But as millions I’ll return

My people are bleedin’
So I’m readin’ and seekin’ the deepest of meanin’s
My demons are breedin’
In my sleep I can feel it, I need to defeat ’em
My temperature’s risin’
If tempted I’ll rise with the temper of Tyson
Resent all the violence
Cause of people with tension
It tends to divide them
The pen that I write with
Is better than a sword when I strike with the strength of a Titan
My friends are still fighting against all the tyrants
So then why would it end when I die then?
Peace is something I would really adore
But we are at war my pen’s killing your sword
I’m merely a corpse, but still be assured
When you kill me there will be a million more

Born alone and die alone
Those words ringin’ inside my dome
Best friends are the pen and the microphone
Roamin’ until I find my way home
Turn my body cold but my soul is mine
Take a deep breath and I close my eyes
I will go when I’m supposed to die
But in death I will multiply

My backs against the wall
But you can’t kill us all
Even if you take my life
Still we will survive
We shall overcome
And the tables will turn
Today I die as one but as millions I’ll return
But as millions I’ll return
But as millions I’ll return

You might take my life
But you can’t take my soul
You can’t take my soul
You might take my freedom
But you can’t take my soul
You can’t take my soul

You might take my life
But you can’t take my soul
You can’t take my soul
You might take my freedom
But you can’t take my soul
You can’t take my soul

Long Live Palestine by Lowkey (Official Video)

Lyrics

This is for Palestine, Ramallah, West Bank, Gaza,
This is for the child that is searching for an answer,
I wish I could take your tears and replace them with laughter,
Long live Palestine, Long live Gaza!!

While we listen to tunes, made by ignorant fools,
Israel blocked the UN from delivering food,
They’ll bring in the troops and you won’t even glimpse at the news,
They make money of the products that we are quick to consume,
It’s not simply a question of differing views,
Forget emotions, this is fact, what I spit is the truth,
Makes no difference if you’re a Christian or if you’re a Jew,
They are just people living in different conditions to you,
They still die when you bomb their schools, mosques and hospitals,
It is not because of rockets, please god can you stop it all,
I’m not related to the strangers on the TV,
But I relate because those faces could have been me,
Words can never ever explain the raw tragedy,
It’s not a war they’re just murdering more rapidly,
We are automatically supporting pure savagery,
Imagine how you’d feel if it was your family,

This is for Palestine, Ramallah, West Bank, Gaza,
This is for the child that is searching for an answer,
I wish I could take your tears and replace them with laughter,
Long live Palestine, Long live Gaza,

Palestine remains in my heart forever,
We stand for peace, in times of war we shan’t surrender,
Remember, it didn’t start in that dark December,
Every coin is a bullet, if you’re Mark’s and Spencer,
And when your sipping Coca-Cola,
That’s another pistol in the holster of a soulless soldier,
You say you know about the Zionist lobby,
But you put money in their pocket when you’re buying their coffee,
Talking about revolution, sitting in Starbucks,
The fact is that’s the type of thinking I can’t trust,
Let alone even start to respect,
Before you talk learn the meaning of that scarf on your neck,
Forget Nestle,
Obama promised Israel 30 billion over the next decade,
They’re trigger happy and they’re crazy,
Think about that when you’re putting Huggies nappies on your baby,

This is for Palestine, Ramallah, West Bank, Gaza,
This is for the child that is searching for an answer,
I wish I could take your tears and replace them with laughter,
Long live Palestine, Long live Gaza,

This is not just a war over stolen land,
Why do you think little boys are throwing stones at tanks?
We will never really know how many people are dead,
They drop bombs on little girls while they sleep in their beds,
Don’t get offended by facts, just try and listen,
Nothing is more anti-Semitic than Zionism,
So please don’t bring bad vibes when you speak to me,
I know there’s plenty of Rabbi’s that agree with me,
It’s your choice what you do with this message,
Don’t get it confused; I view this from a truly human perspective,
How many more resolutions have to be violated,
How many more children have to be annihilated
Israel is a terror state, there terrorists that terrorise,
I testify, my television televised them telling lies,
This is not a war, it is systematic genocide,
But whatever they try, Palestine will never die!!!

The First Demo Victim of 2011 | Murdered by Israel ‘s Inhumane Occupation Forces | Jawahar Abu Rahmah [This page will be continuously updated about the events]

Jawahir Abu Rahmah, 36 year old woman from Bil’in

RAMALLAH (Ma’an) – A Palestinian woman died Saturday morning after suffering intense tear-gas inhalation during an anti-wall rally in Bil’in on Friday, medics said.

Palestinian medical sources in Ramallah said 36-year-old Jawahir Abu Rahmah, from Bil’in, died at Ramallah medical compound. Abu Rahmah inhaled large amounts of tear gas fired by Israeli forces who forcibly dispersed a non-violent rally protesting the separation wall.

The local popular committee said doctors fought through the night to save Abu Rahmah’s life. She was diagnosed as suffering from poisoning caused by the active ingredient in the tear-gas, and did not respond to treatment, the committee said in a statement.

“We are shocked and furious for Israel’s brutality, which once again cost the life of a peaceful demonstrator. Israel’s lethal and inhumane response to our struggle will not pass. In the dawn of a new decade, it is time for the world to ask Israel for accountability and to bring about an end to the occupation,” said committee member Mohammed Khatib.

Abu Rahmah’s brother Bassem was killed in April 2009 by a tear gas canister fired at his chest by an Israeli soldier during a village demonstration.

Friday’s rally was attended by Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad. Organizers said more than 1,000 demonstrators attended the final protest of the year calling for an end to Israel’s land confiscations.

Israeli forces met the protest with tear-gas canisters, hitting one teenager in the face and sending him to hospital. Military officials said they were unaware of injuries, and that around 250 participated in the protest.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said the area was declared a closed military zone in advance of the protest “in an effort to prevent an escalation of the violent and illegal riot” that the village hosts weekly.

Protest demonstration outside the Israel Embassy in London

“MrAlexSeymour | December 27, 2010

Protest demonstration outside the Israel Embassy in London to commemorate the second anniversary of Israel’s murderous attack on the civilian population of Gaza on 27/12/2008, a date, which like that of the attack on Pearl Harbour, will live in infamy and will be a bloody stain on the name of the Jewish People for ever.

Politics. Society. Conspiracies.. Reality. – Unsent Letter:

To The Palestinian Girl Whose Parents Were Killed At The Seaside By Israeli Rocket,

I cried for you. And I don’t cry much. I cried for you silently, whilst you cried loudly. My eyes swelling up, staring at your face. My ears deafened by your cry. I cried for what they had done to you. I cried that you weren’t the only one to go through this. Your scream pierced me deeply. Your scream broke my heart. Helplessness gripped me. I wonder what gripped you. Besides despair and pain, great pain. Pain I can’t dare to imagine. I wanted to give you everything I could right there and then watching you throw yourself into the sand. Whilst they covered up your parents and siblings for the ambulance, whilst you cried hitting yourself, I wanted to open my arms wide and comfort you, to let you hit me instead. Whisper that this will all be over. I wanted you to scream your head buried into my chest. I wanted to stroke your hair and calm you. Cry with you. Whilst wanting to avenge those responsible for your pain. For your mother and fathers death. For your two brothers and sisters death. But all I could do was want watching you from thousands of miles away. Hopelessly.

I can rewind the footage of you. And I can re-watch. And then I can forget. I know you can’t. I know you rewind the moments before they were taken from you, over and over again. The best ones too. Maybe your first day at school when your mum dressed you. Maybe a birthday you had where your mum had done her best to find you new clothes, used, but new to you nevertheless. But then you remember the blood on the beach before you sleep. The bodies. When you’re quiet, when you stare, is that what you think of?

Do you have nightmares? It’s been 3, 4 years now. Do you still have nightmares? Do you wake up scared, finding it hard to breathe with no one beside you? No one to run to? Or are you now scarred with hatred. Do you wish death upon the enemy? Do you wish to avenge those who occupy your land and people like I do? Or do you just want long awaited peace?

I wonder where you are now. I wonder where you live, who you live with, what you do. I wonder if anyone is hugging you, comforting you the way I still want to comfort you. I want to show you the beauty of the world. I want to teach you the beauty of the world. I want to tell you everything has happened for a reason. I have seen you cry and collapse on hot sand, crying in agony. I want to make sure you never have to cry the way you did. Scream the way you did. I want to see you laugh. I want the only tears you wipe to be from laughter. I want your eyes to smile when you smile. I hope you smile. I hope despite the cruelty life has let you see, you can still find reasons to smile. Even if its the littlest one.

to the Palestinian Girl who’s parents were killed at the seaside by israeli rocket, dear Huda, I fight for the freedom and justice to be served for you, and your people. I cry for them too.
